Owen Waterbury (Kirk Douglas), an author with as much debacle as talent, recruits sweet young aspiring writer Stephanie 'Steve' Gaylord (Laraine Day) as his latest of many of a long line of bruised secretaries. Waterbury's idea of work looks a lot like funny business.
